LDR Obtains Approval In Japan For Their Easyspine(R) Posterior Osteosynthesis System
LDR, a total spine solution company, announced they obtained approval in Japan to market their Easyspine posterior osteosynthesis system. The Easyspine system was approved by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare on March 9, followed by government approval for reimbursement on April 1. LDR has worked closely with the Yufu Itonaga Company in Tokyo to obtain this approval. The Yufu Itonaga Company will distribute and support the Easyspine line.

NOSCAR(R) Announces NOTES(R) Multicenter Human Trials In The U.S.
The Natural Orifice Surgery Consortium for Assessment and Research(R) (NOSCAR(R)), a joint effort of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), announces the first Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery(R) (NOTES(R)) multicenter human trial in the United States. Until now, NOSCAR research efforts have focused on basic research. The next phase will involve critical human trials. Continuing research commitments from industry partners Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Olympus America Inc. and Stryker Medical will provide funds to support the study in this emerging transdisciplinary therapy. The landmark study was announced at the 4th International Conference on NOTES in Boston where nearly 300 physicians and industry representatives gathered to learn the latest information about the science and technology of the medical platform.

Lupus Foundation Of America Web Chat Explores "Your Skin And Lupus"

Approximately two-thirds of the 1.5 million Americans living with lupus will develop some type of skin disease. Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system is unbalanced causing it to become destructive to any organ and tissue in the body. Skin disease in lupus can cause rashes or sores (lesions), most of which will appear on sun-exposed areas, such as a person"s face, ears, neck, arms, and legs. In addition, 40-70 percent of people with systemic lupus will find that their disease is made worse by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from sunlight or artificial light. For this and other reasons, people with lupus are advised to take steps to protect themselves from exposure to UV light. Summertime presents a challenge for people with lupus as vacations, leisure activities and household tasks can increase time outdoors, increasing risk of lupus flares. In addition, people with lupus are also at risk for other skin problems.
